Increasing transparency in digital donation drives

By: iPay

In the past few months, we have seen an increase in the number of people and organizations seeking public engagement in raising funds for various causes to help vulnerable and affected families.

Running a donation drive may seem easy, but the real task comes about when the individual or organization needs to show and prove accountability for the donations they have received.

The rise of technology-driven integrated payment platforms, such as iPay, have made it so much easier to achieve this. Such solutions, once integrated with your donation drive’s main collection platform, provide real-time reporting on cash received from all channels, be it debit or credit cards, bank transfers, or mobile money payments.

With over 10 years of experience in the local market, iPay has partnered with some donation drives in the Kenyan market to provide a safe and secure payment processing platform.

During this COVID-19 season, Jerotich Seii, humanitarian and development consultant, leveraged iPay’s digital payments technology in her campaign, #HumanityKe, a donation drive to help families affected by the measures put in to curb the spread of COVID-19. “iPay’s platform has made it possible for me to quickly track the donation amount values and I do not have to manually collate them” said Jerotich in an interview.

Earlier in 2018, iPay also partnered with music artist, King Kaka, through the Kaka Empire Foundation, on his Bank On Me Sanitary Bank Campaign, which is aimed at raising 100,000 sanitary towels to keep needy girls in school. As we celebrate Menstrual Wellness Month this May, the campaign recognizes the right to education for girls, noting that no girl should be absent from school due to lack of access to sanitary towels.

iPay MD, Philip Nyamwaya explained the need for transparent digital donation drives saying, “We offered our technology to the campaign to simplify and accelerate the donation process and also enable secure monetary donations from the general public from all over the world. Cash donations from as little as Kshs 5/-, mobile money Mpesa, Eazzy Pay or Airtel Money and Safaricom Bonga points can also be used.”
